HOW I FOUND A TECHNICAL CO-FOUNDER

How I found a technical CoFounder

·       I spent 1.5 months defining my vision, product, growth strategy and numbers

·       I spent 2 weeks practicing my pitch

·       I attended 73 start-up events over 5 months (got to practice my pitch at over 33 events)

·       I pitched designers, engineers, other startup founders, UX specialists and anyone else that would listen

·       At the end of every pitch I let people know that I was looking for a Technical Co-Founder

·       At the International Startup Festival – a 3 day event in Montreal - I met 70+ people - pitched all of them

·       From the 70+ people, several were engineers and 2 were open to staying in touch

·       Upon returning to Toronto I reached out to one engineer and didn’t hear back for over 5 weeks

·       I lost the contact info for the other engineer but I recalled that his name was Alex

·       I jumped on linkedin and meetup.com looking for him

·       I reached out to 53 engineers in the Toronto region named Alex

·       I heard back from 22

·       1 of 22 engineers told me that he didn’t attend any event in Montreal but was willing to meet for a coffee and chat

·       We met at a coffee shop and I pitched him

·       He said yes in less than 10 minutes

·       I thought he was crazy and that he likely misunderstood that I was asking him to consider being my Co-Founder which would essentially mean that we would be business dating for months with the aim of getting business married for a long long time

·       He confirmed that he was in

·       That was in 2014

·       We’re still business partners till this day

·       He's one of the most incredible and brilliant human beings, engineers and friends that I’ve ever met
